The Benefits of Turmeric
Turmeric has been used in Asia for thousands of years and is a major part of traditional medicine. It was first used as a dye, and then later for its medicinal properties.
In the Indian continent, this spice, known as the golden goddess, plays also a big part in food (curries, desserts, beverages…)
The benefits of turmeric are numerous. Recent studies demonstrated that curcumin, its main compound, has powerful anti inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. It boosts the immunity and is effective in arthritis, diabetes and many other chronic diseases.
That’s why, in most of my recipes, turmeric is added as a healthy supplement. It goes very well with stews, soups, sauces and does not alter the original taste of the recipe if used in moderation. But please keep in mind that turmeric is not well absorbed by the body unless it is mixed with fat and/or black pepper! (Thus, perfect in cooking!)
